Lemon Balm, also known as “Melissa”, is one of the most powerful wild botanicals used at PuraVeda Organics in our Kapha skin care essentials. The essential oil of Lemon Balm is a rare botanical extract obtained from the leaves and flowers of Melissa officinalis, a member of the mint family native to South Central Europe, the Mediterranean region, Iran, and parts of the Americas.
This sweet, fresh, lemony-scented oil is rich in antioxidants such as geraniol, nerol, and citronellal, all of which contribute to its wide range of therapeutic skin benefits.
Melissa Essential Oil is an instant skin refresher and an exceptionally effective acne-controlling botanical. Its antimicrobial active compounds penetrate deep into the dermis to help detoxify pores and prevent the overgrowth and spread of acne-causing bacteria. In addition, rosmarinic acid and tannins act as natural astringents that help balance excess oil production and improve skin firmness.
A word of caution: Lemon Balm Essential Oil is not a DIY ingredient. When used at high concentrations, it may cause skin sensitization and should only be applied topically at clinically recommended levels.
