KOJIC ACID -  Fade Away Dark Spots!

Kojic acid is derived from several different types of fungi (mushrooms), and is a byproduct of the fermentation process, formed during the sake brewing process. Kojic acid prevents the formation of tyrosine, an amino acid that is necessary for the production of melanin (pigmentation in the hair, skin and eyes).  Due to it's ability to penetrate the layers of your skin and stop the melanin production, kojic acid is used as a natural spot-fading treatment, and is used as a alternative to the toxins found in hydroquinone.

Despite having "acid" in it's name, kojic acid is safe to use — and has antioxidant, antimicrobial, and exfoliating properties.  While we don't recommend that you use kojic acid 'overal skin fading products, we do use  kojic acid-infused to fade discoloration that wasn't originally on your skin, like age spots, melasma, sun spots and post acne blemish redness.

Kojic acid is well-tolerated and safe for the face and body on even sensitive skin, and is a great option for those who can't (or don't want to) use ingredients like hydroquinone or retinoids due to their toxin levels, as well as irritation factor for many.  Here at PuraVeda Organics, Kojic Acid is used in our proprietary 'Deva-Bright' formula for the prevention and treatment of hyperpigmentation in conjunction with Licorice Root and Uva Ursi (Bearberry), all three of which work synergistically to fade dark spots.
