The oil obtained from the beautiful yellow-colored flowers of the Evening Primrose plant (Oenothera biennis) have unique skin and hair benefits. The wildflower is native to North and South America. Containing variety of plant-based hormone and hormone-like compounds, as well as fats and vitamins, Evening Primrose oil is particularly helpful in preventing dryness and improving overall skin and hair quality.

Omega fatty acids are extremely good for skin health, and Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) contains abundance of a rare type of Omega 6 called, Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). GLA when supplemented with Vitamin C, E and other antioxidants, dramatically improves skin smoothness and rebuilds the skin’s barrier function. It prevents moisture loss and regulates the process of epidermal keratinization, which delays the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Being rich in GLA (about 13%) and Linoleic acid (about 72%) Evening Primrose Oil has also proven to be beneficial in treating acne, eczema, skin sensitivity and other kapha and pitta skin issues. As EPO improves the skin’s water balance and supports a healthy dermal microbiome.

EPO also adds hydration to dry and damaged hair. The fatty acids in EPO encourage hair regeneration, improve volume and prevent dandruff.
