Daily shaving is a tall order for delicate skin. What causes shaving irritation and what happens as a result? For one, shaving irritation is typically caused by an inappropriate skincare routine before or after shaving. Either not exfoliating to eliminate dead skin and clean pores for a comfortable shave, or using an alcohol based aftershave that dries your skin out and causes it to itch and flake.
Ingrown hairs are both frustrating & painful, they appear commonly due to daily shaving that isn’t done with proper skincare products, or using products that have harsh ingredients, (primarily alcohol related) that do nothing to soothe skin. After a fresh shave, skin is in a compromised and vulnerable state, with a small, sharp segment of hair shaft remaining in the hair follicle.
Think about it, a razor swipes past the hair and only grazes the surface of the skin, it does not remove the entire hair. That hair left within the follicle is a small straight stub, but when it breaks back through to grow, it can head any number of directions and wind up ingrown by curling back under the skin and continuing to grow.
By not cleaning your skin prior to shaving and combining dead skin and oil into your shaving routine, you are only inviting dirt into your exposed pore which can lead to blemishes or ingrown hairs—both painful! Try a GENTLE EXFOLIATION that will leave your skin fresh and smooth before a shave and see that the aftermath will be far more agreeable. After you shave, use a hydrating aftershave without alcohol or chemicals that will nourish your fresh skin and leave you feeling confident, smooth and healed.
